On Sunday 11th October, an amazing group of runners will be lacing up their trainers and taking on the Leicester Half Marathon and 10K for The Laura Centre.

Some are running in memory of someone they love. Some have experienced our support themselves, or seen what it has meant to a friend or family member. Others just wanted to take on a challenge while helping a local charity.

Whatever brought them to Team TLC, every mile they run and every pound they raise will help us continue to provide free bereavement support to children, young people and families.

So, ahead of race day, we wanted to introduce you to the people we’ll be cheering for.

Team Morgan

For Andrea and Team Morgan, every step will be taken in memory of Andrea’s son, Morgan, who died in 2025.

The Laura Centre has supported Andrea through some of the darkest days following Morgan’s death, and running has become one of the ways she keeps putting one foot in front of the other. This Sunday, she’ll take on the Leicester 10K and Half Marathon alongside Team Morgan – the friends who have supported, encouraged and run beside her.

They’re raising money to help us be there for other families facing the death of a child, while keeping Morgan at the heart of every mile. As Andrea puts it: “Every pound raised is in his memory. Every mile is for him.”

Caroline Abraham

Caroline is taking on the Leicester 10K in memory of her daughter, Arianne, who died in a horse riding accident in 2015.

The Laura Centre supported Caroline and her family following Arianne’s death, including through bereavement counselling, family days and our walking group. Now, Caroline wants to help other families have that same support.

Her running story started much more recently – and much more gently! Caroline originally went along to Parkrun to walk and make some friends, before joining Barrow Runners’ Couch to 5K earlier this year. Having completed that, she’s now stepping up to 10K on Sunday.

Chris Brooks & David Buist

Chris is running his first half marathon after he and his wife lost their son, Noah, in September 2025.

Over the past year, they’ve both received support from The Laura Centre. After spotting information about our Leicester Half Marathon charity places while at the centre, Chris decided to sign up and raise money to help other bereaved families access the same support.

And he won’t be tackling those 13.1 miles alone. His friend David is joining him to keep him company and, in David’s words, hopefully make the miles “a little more enjoyable along the way”! Together, they’re raising money for the charity that has meant so much to Chris and his family.

Maisy Thompson Fillingham

Maisy will be running after experiencing The Laura Centre’s support herself following the death of her dad.

She describes our support as giving her “hope at a time I couldn’t see past the grief”. She’s taking on the Half Marathon both as a way of saying thank you and to help us continue being there for other young people going through a difficult time.

Molly McDermott

Molly is taking on the Leicester 10K in memory of her dad, who died just over three years ago.

Following his death, Molly and her family received support from The Laura Centre. For Molly, TLC became somewhere she could grieve, talk and ask the questions she didn’t feel she could ask anywhere else.

Now she wants to give something back, running for her dad, for TLC and for the children and young people who continue to walk through our doors needing that same support.

Leighann Wardrop

Leighann is taking on the full 13.1 miles after seeing first-hand the difference The Laura Centre can make.

When Leighann’s husband died, her children received support from our team during one of the most difficult times in their lives. The care and understanding they received helped them as they began to navigate their grief.

Now she’s running to give something back and help make sure other bereaved children and families can access the same support when they need it.

Nadine Green

Nadine is running in memory of her friends’ little boy, Fox, who died around his birth in June 2022.

After seeing her friends go through the devastating experience of losing their baby and then receive free support from The Laura Centre, Nadine wanted to do something to help. She knows how much that support has meant to them and hopes the money she raises will help us be there for other parents and families facing the loss of a child.

Rosie Underhill

Rosie is running for The Laura Centre after receiving our support following the death of Tom.

Our team has been there for Rosie over the past 18 months, and she’s chosen to take on the challenge to raise money for the support we provide to bereaved parents, children and families.

Jamie Simons

For Jamie, race day comes during Baby Loss Awareness Week and will be his very first race.

Jamie and Shannon lost their baby boy, Oakley, in May this year. After receiving support themselves, they wanted to give something back and help other families going through the loss of a baby.

Jamie will be running for all the babies who are loved and remembered, but especially for Oakley.

Beckett Moore

Beckett was a young carer for his dad before he died at the beginning of this year. A member of his family now receives support from The Laura Centre.

He’s chosen to run for us to raise awareness and help more people learn about the bereavement support available to families like his.

Mia Griffin

Mia found The Laura Centre while looking into the support available for bereaved students through her work in the pastoral team at a secondary school.

When she spotted the opportunity to fundraise for us, she decided to sign up for the challenge. Mia has never run further than 10K before, but felt taking on a half marathon would be a great way to push herself while helping young people in the local area access bereavement support.

Stacey Marshall

Running has recently become a real passion for Stacey, and she wanted to use it to do something positive for a local charity.

She chose The Laura Centre after learning about the bereavement support we provide to children, young people and adults, and will be putting her running shoes to good use by raising money to help us continue that work.

Chloe Finlay

And finally, Chloe is taking on the Half Marathon because she believes no family should have to navigate bereavement alone.

She’s running to help us continue providing a safe and supportive place for children, young people and adults following the death of someone close to them – and to make sure that support remains available to families across our community.

There are so many different stories behind this year’s Team TLC, and that’s what makes seeing everyone come together on Sunday mean so much to us.

The money they raise will help us continue providing free bereavement counselling and support to children, young people and families who need us.

So to Andrea and Team Morgan, Caroline, Chris, David, Maisy, Molly, Leighann, Rosie, Beckett, Jamie, Mia, Nadine, Stacey and Chloe – thank you.

We’re incredibly grateful to have you representing The Laura Centre, and we’ll be cheering you all on this Sunday!
